Crafty Toilet Paper Roll Snakes

We love getting crafty around here, especially with re-purposed items.  We are never in short supply of some teepee rolls and I saw this little craft in Family Fun, perfect for the cold days we've been having.

Supplies Needed:
6 toilet paper rolls
paint and paint brush
cup of water
scissors
hole punch
pipe cleaners
glue
googly eyes
ribbon for tongue

Hakan just went to town with paint, but if you have older kids, they could paint diamond shapes and other patterns.

Let them dry.  He painted a paper towel roll just for fun.

Then you cut all the ends into points.

Use your hole punch to punch a hole in each point, except the head and tail.

Cut 3 inch pipe cleaner pieces and loops them through the holes connecting the rolls.

Use glue to put on the googly eyes and tongue.  I burned the end of the ribbon tongue into a point, you don't have to, but I would burn the end so it doesn't unravel.

Now he has a fun sssssssslithering sssssnake to play with:)

I saw these in Family Fun too...though I think Hakan's is way cuter than the one in the magazine. (the truly kid-made stuff always is...)

We did the tape on the floor race track from the magazine and then Ivar wanted to make the bird houses. Not quite for a two year old! Tested my patience, it did. :)
