Reusable/Washable Paper Towel Tutorial

When we traveled to Missouri last November to visit family, I met another crafty mama who told me how to make these washable paper towels.  Since we go through lots and lots of paper towels, I figured I'd give them a try to save some money and trees.  Plus, they are so cute and fun to have on the kitchen counter:)

Supplies needed for 12 towel squares:
1 1/3 - 1 2/3 (depending on width, at least 46 inches to get 3 rows of 4) yards terry cloth (I wanted to use a darker color as to not show stains as much)
1 1/3 - 1 2/3 (depending on width, at least 46 inches to get 3 rows of 4) yards cotton fabric
coordinating thread
iron and board
scissors or rotary cutter
self healing mat
ruler
pins
plastic snaps and snap pliers (I use Babyville brand)
pinching sheers, optional
knitting needle for turning, optional

1.  First, wash and dry both fabrics

2.  Iron both fabrics

3.  Cut 12 11.5 inch squares out of both fabrics

Voila, 24 cut squares

4.  Pin a square of terry cloth to the right side of your cotton fabric lining up all the edges

5.  Start sewing 1/4 inch around the edge, making sure to back stitch at the beginning and end, and leave a 2 inch opening to turn right side out (see picture below)

6. Trim off excess and corners with a scissors or pinching sheers

7.  Turn the square right side out, using your knitting needle, gently push out the corners

8.  Iron the seams down, folding in and lining up the open seam and pin shut

9.  Sew around all the edges, back stitching at the start and end, making sure to fully close the open seam

Almost done!

10.  Using your plastic snap pliers and snaps, you will be attaching snaps to all four corners, on the first top and bottom corners, put the right side of the buttons up, on the other two top and bottom corners, put the wrong side up (hopefully the pictures below will help explain)

11.  Snap all 12 towels together and roll them up, get ready to save some money:)

If you're interested in purchasing some, I would LOVE to make them for you in the fabric of your choosing.  It's $55 for a set of 12.  Email me at anchoredhopelacy(at)gmail(dot)com.  Let me know if you have any questions:)
